Winter is Coming – Hand Guide

Picture from Here

I’m continuing my Winter is coming Series with a hand guide.
So here are a few tips on how to take best care of your hands and nails, aswell as some product tips.
Just like the lip post I’ll start with care and then products. But I’ll put them in the same post this time.

Your hands are really exposed to weather, and with smartphones the gloves you use during cold months are taken of all to often because of the touchscreens. So it’s important to take care of your hands. It’s important to take care of the entire body, but hey, this is a hand post.

1. Moisturize
The biggest problem during winter is that your hands get dry. some people get so dry that they even get cracked skin and skin that flakes off.
So it’s important to keep your hands moisturized.
I usually have two moisturizers, one thicker that I use in the evening and one “normal” if I need more during the days.
But don’t overdo it. Don’t moisturize after every wash. Moisturize when you feel that it’s needed. If you over moisturize the skin on yor hands gets used to it and might get even drier.

2. Soap Free Cleanser
Soap is drying for your hand, so invest in a hand wash thats soap free and caring/moisturizing.

3. Dont Forget The Nails
Your nails also need moisture, a good citicle oil or cream can take care of that.

4. Cover
When your outside. Make sure to wear gloves to protect from the cold and the wind.

5.  Nighttime
The nighhours are perfect for extra moisturizing. Get a thicker moisturizer, coat your hands with it and put on a pair of thin cotton gloves to lock the moisturizer onto your hands instead of it going all over your sheets. if you want you can also use plastic gloves or bags.

The Body ShopWild Rose Hand Cream
The Body Shop –  Almond Hand & Nail Cream
The Body Shop  –Hemp Hand Protector

All Of Them
They all come in aluminium tubes that are easy to carry with you and easy to use. All of them sinks into the skin fast and they are really moisturizing

Easily absorbed
Nice Packaging
Moisturizes well
Feels really nice on the skin.
A little goes a really long way.

The first time you open the tube the pressure can push out more product than needed.
The tube can get soggy if you’re not careful.

The Body ShopWild Rose Hand Cream
This one is for Mature skin and can helpagainst color-changes in the skin. It smells like roses but the scent is pretty strong. I dont mind but it’s worth mentioning.

Smells good.

Can smell a bit to strong.

The Body Shop –  Almond Hand and Nail Cream
This one is for all skin types. It has a nice scent that’s pretty discreet. I’d recomend this one if you need one for a workplace or such. This one also cares for your nails so you
can massage this on your cuticles to.

Cares for both Nails and Hands
Smells less than the rose one but still nice

I don’t know if this is just me, but I feel this one is oilier than the rest so it feels wetter on the hands.

The Body Shop  –Hemp Hand Protector
This one is for dry skin and it’s more moisturizing that the other two. The scent however is not nice, I can’t really eplain it, I just don’t like it. Because of that I rarely use this one.

Extra moisturizing

The scent.

DependHandcream Day
Depend – Handcream Night

These are cheaper than The Body Shop Creams but works really good to. The scent is easiest described as handcream and is pretty discreet. I don’t usually like depends products, but I got a sample of the daycream and found it nice, so when I could buy the daycream and get the nightcream for free, I did.

Smells discreet but still nice
Feels nice
Quickly absorbed (daycream)

The Packaging. These kind of tubes are nice but these get really suggy with product.

The Body ShopWild Rose Nourishing Hand Butter
The Body Shop –  Almond Hand & Nail Butter
The Body Shop  –Hemp Intenseive Hand Butter

All Of Them
They all come in tubs. I think the packaging is nice and they are easy to handle. These are more moisturizing than the Hand Creams so I usually use these when I’m in need of more moisture, and i use one of these at night. Wich one depends on what I feel like and how my hands feel. The Almond one is always a part of my manicure routine though. These linger on the skin for a while so they are not suitable if your in a hurry.

Nice Packaging
Moisturizes well
Feels really nice on the skin. (even more than the creams
A little goes a really long way.
Easy tubs to open/close.

As always with tubs, they can get disgusting since dust, hair and other things can stick to the creams when the lid is off

The Body ShopWild Rose Nourishing Hand Butter
This one as well as the cream is for Mature skin and can help against color-changes in the skin. It smells like the hand cream, maybe slightly stronger.

Smells good.

Can smell a bit to strong.

The Body Shop –  Almond Hand and Nail Butter
This one is for all skin types. It smells like the Cream and also treats the citicles and nails as well as the hands.

Cares for both Nails and Hands
Smells less than the rose one but still nice

I think this ine can feel to runny somtimes, depending on the temperature in the room

The Body Shop  –Hemp Intensive Hand Butter
As well as the cream it’s for dry skin and is more moisturizing than the others. But it still has that same smell. I usually use this one as a night treatment once a week.

Extra moisturizing

The scent.

The Body Shop Wild Rose Caring Hand Wash
The Body Shop  Almond Conditioning Hand Wash

Not much to say about these individually, They smell like the other products from the same range, slightly weaker rose scent.
These work really good, they lather nicely and feel caring. I love the twist packaging though, you don’t have to pump out products to close the pumps, you just twist.

Soap Free
Cleans well
Feels Caring
Smells good.

Don’t have any

Rosebud Perfume Co – Rosebud Salve
Depend Avocado Cuticle Oil

And Lastly products for the nails.

Rosebud Perfume Co – Rosebud Salve
I normally use this as a lip balm, but I tried it on my cuticles and its nice. i only use ut as a touch up if I’m in a hurry though.

Smells nice, like Roses
If massaged in it’s not to greasy.
An okay moisturizer
The packaging looks nice

The tub can be pretty hard to open, espescially with cold hands, and it can get really disgusting.

Depend Avocado Nail Oil
Again a Depend product I like. But I’m still looking for other Cuticle Oils. This comes in a small glas bottle with a dropper in it for easy application. I try using this daily, but normally I only use it one to three times a week. I don’t take the time to massage this in every day since I prefer to massage for a minute on each finger and then massage a cream for a minute on each finger so the products sinks in well.. Sure it’s a total of around 25 minutes each day. But I have a hard time taking the time for it.
But massaging a nail oil on is a great way to care for your nail since it also makes the growing nail stronger. It takes a little while to absorb, but if you massage every finger with the oil and then a cream for a minute each you can just wipe the residue off.

Easy to apply
A faint neutral scent

Can rub of on everything if you do something while your nails are greasy.

Well that concludes the Hand Post

Here is the second part of my Winter is coming – Lip Guide
This time I will talk about products.

During winter it’s important to take good care of your lips.
Here are some products and home remedies to keep your lips soft.

1. Exfoliate

Scrubing your lips removes dead skin so that your moisturizer can reach better.

I have actually only tried one exfoliating products for my lips

The Body Shop Lip Scuff
This one smells like sweet-mint and have small grains in it to exfoliate. I use this 2-3 times a week and I really like it, it’s gentle but it sill does what it says.
I usually just sort of buff this on my lips in small circular motions and then leave it for a few minutes before I rinse it of. I put it on when I start my nightly facial routine and remove it at the end of my routime.
I would recomend this product. but I want to try other lip scrubs to.

Home Remedies

Honey and sugar scrub.
This is really simple, you take a little bit of honey and just add sugar until you get a nice paste, scrub your lips with it and leave on for a couple of minutes. The honey acts moisturizing while the sugar exfoliates.

Personally I don’t like thiis one, but I have a mayor problem with sticky on my lips. I can barely have lip gloss.
But I have done this a few tomes and it works.

2. Moisturize

Here are my review on some product. And a warning in the end.

The Body Shop – Sweet Lemon Lip Butter

I bought this one somewhere in December last year. I’d gotten a coconut lip balm in my Body Shop Calendar, and I really don’t like coconut. So I gave that one to a friend and bought this one for myself. I wanted to get the Pink Grapefruit one, but they were out. So I’ll buy it some other day.

A good moisturizer
Not to sticky
Nice Lemon Scent.

The Taste. It has a sweet taste. It’s not horrible, but I’m not a big fan of it.
Tub. I almost only have lip balms in tubs, I acctually don’t mind, but it can get pretty disgusting to put your fingers in it over and over again. I usually carry hand-sanitizer, that I use before. But still.

Försvarets Hudsalva

I don’t really know how I should translate the name. But it’s a salve made by and originally for the swedish military to treat chafing. Normally it comes in a military green tube, but I prefer buying the pink one since it looks better in my bag, and it’s easier to find. They have a pink ribbon one to, I just haven’t gotten my hands on that one yet. The smell is said to be vanilla, but I think it’s really neutral.
You can literally use this for everything. Dry elbows/feet/lips, chafing. Rub it on your face to prevent frostbite. You can even cook in it, but I’ve never tried that. I’ve only tried it for my lips though.

Really good moisturizer
Easy application.
Many uses.
The smell is discreet.
The packaging. This is easy to use even with gloves on.

Cons I only have one con, but its really worth mentioning.
Peanut Oil – I do not understand how something thats developed for military use contains peanut oil. Peanuts are the most common allergenic agent. I myself is not allergic to peanuts, but I still think that the fact is really annoying.

Overall I really like this product. But usually this is my night treatment. During the days i use my other products.

Rosebud Perfume Co – Strawberry Lip Balm, Minted Rose Lip Balm and Rosebud Salve

I have used the minted rose one off ad on for a few years and the others for about a month. I love these. The strawberry one however is a litle less moisturizing, but I don’t really mind

Works like a charm.
These tubs litterally lasts forever
The Scents. I love the smell of these. Not to artificial, even though it’s strawberry we’re talking about.
The tubs. I could have gotten the strawberry and the rose one in tubes, but I love the look of these tubs. Might get the tubes for the winter though, since they are glove friendly.
Slightly glossy For a girl who’s not a fan of lip gloss. This is wonderfull.

If you put on to much it gets thick and sticky.
If you keep them in your pocket they get really soft.

Overall these will always have a place in my heart and in my bag.
They have a mocha rose lip balm that I’m dying to try. I’ve heard it’s a bit chocolate, vanilla, coffee scented. But I havenät had the chance since I couldn’t find it where I live.

The Body Shop – 100% Natural Lip Roll On, Mint

I don’t know if it’s me or this product, but I never really fell in love with it. I love the packaging and the roll on applicator, but the product doesn’t really give me anything. I probably wont use much until next year since this feels more like a summer product. That might just be my opinion because it’s an oil and not a balm, so it feels thinner. Really love the smell of mint and it fells slightly tingly and cooling on my lips. I might change my mind on this one if I use it for a long time, but it’s not a product I reach for. It might be because I always forget to shake it.

Smart Applicator
Nice smell
Nice feeling

Doesn’t feel like it’s working

They have this one in other scents, so I might try that to see if I like those better. Because this is really a product that I want to love due to the 100% Natural part. so rose and orange are the other scents I’d like to try.

Now to my warning.

This is a Swedich product that was createt in the begining of the 1900 and are now sold worldwide I think. (I have absolutely nothing against the company who makes them, btw)

I don’t usually hate products, I can often loathe them, but not hate. But this one, is on my hate list.
I have nothing good to say about this product. It works for the moment for about 30 minutes, the, your lips are drier than before and you need more and more of this product to get through the day.

To the products defence and to clarify my long hatred for this one. That’s how I felt about this product when I last used it, when I was around 10 years old. But since then I’d rather go without lip balms than use this one. So maybe I should buy one and try it out to see what I think now. But that’s probably not going to happen.

Well. That was the second part of my Winter is Coming – Lip Guide

I’m thinking of doing more winter is coming posts, about hair, body and face. Is that anything that would interest my readers? In that case, what parts would you want? Leave a comment.

Tomorrow and on saturday I’m going to two halloween parties. So I’ll have some halloween make ups to show you after that. Hopefully the guys I’m going to help with their make up will let me post pictures of them to.

Please comment if there’s anything especial you want me to write about.

New products

I was in town today for some errands and I took some time to look for some new lip-products for myself, since I’m not all that happy with most of what I got. I’m talking lip care now, not color/gloss.

This is what I came home with;

Two bottles of Passion Fruit Facial Cleaning Gel From The Body Shop
Lipscuff from The Body Shop
Smith’s Rosebud Salve and Strawberry Lip Balm from Rosebud Perfume Company Inc
Soya Milk Foaming Bath Powder from The Body Shop

Passion Fruit Facial Cleaning Gel from The Body Shop

Since I just bought these I obviously haven’t tried them. But they smell good.
These were in a box with Buy 3 products for 100 SEK.
I will try these and review them (hopefully), I don’t know when though since I have a lot of products to review and I’m also happy with my current skin care products.

Soya Milk Foaming Bath Powder

This one was also in the buy 3 for 100 SEK box with the Passion Fruit Facial Cleaning Gel so I thought, why not? I was more interested in the cleanser though, that’s why I bought two of that one.
This Foaming Bath Powder is – obviously – for taking a bath. The instructions say to use one tablespoon and add it to running water. Since it contains 2.1 ounces that means around 60 ml I think, which means that this bag contains 4 doses so to speak. I will try this one and at least give a small post of what I think, but I don’t now if I will make a full review of this one.

As I mentioned the other day my camera does not cooperate with me right now, so I really couldn’t get a picture of how this product looks without the cap. So I’ll describe it. It looks like a lip moisture stick but contains an exfoliant. I think its ground up fig seed so it exfoliates your lips. It also contains Vitamin E, Macadamia Oil and some other moisturizers. It has a light green color with brown dots that I’m guessing is the fig seeds. It also has a minty smell that I would say is closer to spearmint than peppermint.
You use this by just putting it on your lips like a normal moisturizer then you rub your lips together and whipe it of. I haven’t tried this one either yet but there will be a review on this one too.

Smith’s Rosebud Salve and Strawberry Lip Balm

I needed a new lip balm and I’ve been using Smith’s Minted Rose Lip balm (last picture, left side) off and on for a couple of years and I’m satisfied with that. Si I thought that since I couldn’t find mine, I’d buy a new one.
They didn’t have the mint balm so I bought the original and the strawberry one, and then I found my mint balm in an old purse when I got home.
I haven’t tried the new ones enough to give a review on them and since it’s a couple of months since I last used the mint balm, the review on that one will have to wait so I can frewhen up my opinion.
The strawberry balm and the mint balm are only for lips while the Original Rosebud Salve is a multi-purpose salve. I’ve heard it’s supposed to work well as a cuticle cream, so I think I’ll try that.
They come in a  small tin that looks really good, allthough tins might not be all that hygenic, I’m the kind of girl who keeps hand sanitiser in my bag, either as a gel or whipes, so it’s not really a problem. They do however exist in tube packaging to, but I wanted the tins, might buy the tubes later, anyway there will be a review on these too.
(I know I said at the begining of the post that I wasn’t looking for a color/gloss. I know these are tinted and a little glossy, but they are still lipbalms)

I’ll actually try to do a lip post soon since winter is coming and lipcare is extra important during the winter months, and if you like me live in Sweden –  or any other country in Scandinavia for that matter – it gets cold and windy in the winters. Last year I think we had between -20 to -30 degrees celsius most of the time.

Well that was all I had today
